Black out poem: Untitled
To pay homage to one of my favorite works of literature, I chose to use Donna Tartt’s The Secret History as a springboard for this black out poem. The novel features an exclusive group of Classics students studying at a small liberal arts university as they translate Ancient Greek works and bring those ideals into their modern society. Led by a charismatic teacher, the group discovers that separating their reality from their teachings grows more difficult with each day spent at the school.
With this poem, I wished to create “something” from “nothing”. Black out poetry is about taking pre-existing words and transforming and eliminating and editing to create something completely new.
