Painting: “Let it Ring” acrylic, paper, pen, thread on canvas board
The focal point of this piece is the variety of eyes in the foreground meant to showcase different readers. Each eye (aka person) sees a work in a different way. However, they are viewing the same work, represented by the red thread. Acting as the literal thread of continuity, I chose red to both act as an accent as well as nod to the famous red pen used by editors. Then, the background of darkness and of these ripples is meant to highlight the ripple effect that reading a translation has on a person. The closer to the center, the closer to the original work; farther out is where the translation lies and then even further would be the emotions of the reader.
